The Township of Georgian Bluffs has attracted a new aviation business to the Wiarton Keppel International Airport.
Mayor Al Barfoot says R&D Aviation are re-locating from Guelph to provide maintenance and mechanical service to both private and commerical aircraft at the township-owned airport.
"This is great news for us and we hope, one of the first businesses that will be re-locating," Barfoot says. "We are working on numerous other ones."
Barfoot says the Wiarton Keppel International Airport will now be competitive with other airports such as Peterborough and the Waterloo Region in offering commercial aircraft maintanence.
According to a release from Georgian Bluffs, work continues at the airport to ensure infrastructure and service can be provided to passengers in the vent scheduled passenger flights become a reality.
A survey conducted in Feburary found strong support for the establishment of scheduled passenger flights from the Wiarton Airport to Toronto City Center.
"Discussions continue with airline carriers in an effort to secure scheduled passenger flights and to ensure success," a statement from Barfoot says.
