They say it is best to get them early.
Apparently the Mississauga Steelheads were following that as they made two early first period goals stick and went on to beat the Barrie Colts 2-1 on Thursday night.
Cole Carter (1 goal, 1 assist) gave the Steelheads a 1-0 lead just 14 seconds into the game on the very first shot on goal.
James Hardie (1 goal, 1 assist) scored at the 4:59 mark on a nifty pass from Carter to make it 2-0 for Mississauga.
Metej Pekar would answer for the Colts 3 minutes later on the power play to cut the lead down to 2-1.
The goaltenders took over the rest of the way.
Jacob Ingham made 29 saves for the Steelheads (3-1-1-0) while Jet Greaves stopped 28 shots for the Colts (2-2-1-0) in his first career OHL start.
Penalties killed any hopes of a Barrie comeback as they were shorthanded five times though none led to goals for Mississauga.
The Colts were 1-for-3 with the man advantage.
The Colts head on the road for a pair of game this weekend.
The first is Saturday afternoon when they play the 67s in Ottawa then on Sunday afternoon against the Frontenacs in Kingston.
