This year's Chatsworth Fall Fair will not happen.
President Jenna McKay of the Chatsworth Agricultural Society says the Board of the Society decided to cancel the fair because of problems with the Chatsworth Community Centre.
The fair was scheduled for September 15, 16 & 17, 2017, but in May, an engineering report on the building identified problems with mold and with the structure itself.
As a result, the building will be officially shuttered by the Township of Chatsworth at the end of September.
McKay says "Our predominant concern is for the safety, health and well-being of people who attend our Fair, and of our members and countless volunteers."
She says the Board felt that using the building for the Fair in mid-September involved too many uncertainties, and the possibility of unacceptable risks.
President McKay noted the extraordinary support of the community for the Fall Fair over many years, and in turn the importance to Chatsworth and the area, of the Fair and other events sponsored by the Agricultural Society.
McKay says they really regret this turn of events, but it is temporary.
She says the Board has already started working towards a bigger and better Fair for 2018.
Finally, President McKay made a point of noting that the "world-famous" Chatsworth Santa Claus Parade, sponsored by the Agricultural Society, will go ahead as planned on Saturday, Dec 16, 2017.
