Grey County is awarding tenders for work on Grey Roads 2 and 19, as well as contributing to the reconstruction of Grey Road 7.
On Thursday, Committee of the Whole approved a staff recommendation to award the resurfacing of Grey Roads 2 and 19 be to E.C. King Contracting for about $4.1 million, which was the lowest bid.
A staff report says the work will be done on Grey Road 2 from Grey Road 31 to Grey Road 19 and on Grey Road 19 from Grey Road 2 to The Blue Mountains-Clearview Townline, for a total length of 19.5 km of road resurfacing.
The project will create 3.5 m lanes with 1.25 m paved shoulders. Staff say the road will be open to traffic with intermittent alternating lane closures.
The anticipated project window falls between June 19th and July 21st, 2023.
Councillors also approved the staff recommendation to contribute about $2 million as the the County portion of a joint road project with the Municipality of Meaford. It will involve the reconstruction of a section of Grey Road 7 (St. Vincent St.) from Muir Street to 70m south of Highway 26.
Grey County owns the road and Meaford has municipal infrastructure in the road area that needs upgrading. That will involve switching watermain infrastructure from a 100 mm mainline to a new 250 mm mainline to better service residents.
Meaford issued the tender for the project on behalf of the County on March 9th. Meaford is set to formally award the project to the lowest bidder Arnill Construction Limited o/a Seeley and Arnill Construction at its April 17, 2023, Council meeting.
Work will also include the reconstruction of the road, curb and gutter. It will add paved shoulders and replace storm sewer infrastructure. In addition, it will add a left-hand turn lane for the south entrance to the new Georgian Bay Community School.
