With the passing of former CFOS personality Don Daynard, those who knew him are paying tribute to him.
Stu Paterson, who has spent a career working in radio, television, and print, took the time to speak with Bayshore News to remember his former boss as a kind and friendly man.
“Daynard was the real thing. He was exactly the same person on-air as he was off-air. He was jovial, he was friendly, and he was always helpful to new broadcasters coming into the business.”
Daynard passed away at the age of 89 after a lengthy illness.
Paterson had gotten his start in radio because of Daynard, who was willing to take a chance on a young, aspiring broadcaster back in 1963.
He says that as a new broadcaster, Daynard was an ideal mentor.
“I always felt that there was no such thing as a stupid question, and he agreed that that was the way to go. So I had lots of questions, and he guided me.”
Although Paterson says he and Daynard lost touch over the past few years due to the latter man’s failing health, he has nothing but good things to say.
“He was always really helpful to me, and he was a wonderful guy and he will really be missed.”
