Owen Sound Attack 4 Barrie Colts 1

Attack 4 Colts 1

The Owen Sound Attack overcame a solid netminding performance by Jet Greaves to beat the Colts 4-1 at the Harry Lumley-Bayshore.

Greaves finished with 62 saves in the game as he held the under manned Colts in the game throughout.

Barrie had just 15 skaters for the contest, playing 3 under the limit.

Newcomer Evan Vierling staked the Colts to a 1-0 lead at the 8 minute mark when he blasted a hard shot by Mack Guzda from 30 feet out.

That was the only puck to get by Guzda on the game. He finished with 29 saves and posted his 15th win of the season.

Guzda now has 49 career victories and ranks 6th all time in Plater-Attack franchise history for wins by a netminder.

The Attack power play was one for 7 in the game, but the lone power play marker was potted by Brady Lyle which tied the game at 1 midway through the 1st period.

Before the end of the period, Sergey Popov banged home a rebound to give Owen Sound a 2-1 lead, a goal that stood up as the game winner.

Underage Kaleb Lawrence took advantage of fortunate bounce to make it 3-1 in the 2nd period and Matt Philip had a determined solo effort in the 3rd period to round out the scoring.

The victory for Owen Sound allows them to skip over Sault Ste Marie into a tie for 7th place in the Western Conference with the Erie Otters.

On the year, Barrie has won 3 of 5 meetings head to head against Owen Sound. The 6th and final meeting between the Highway 26 rivals will be March 11th, again in Owen Sound.

The loss for Barrie leaves them tied for 7th in the Eastern Conference with Niagara, 7 points up on Kingston who are out of a playoff position at the moment.

The Colts have a huge divisional matchup Friday night when they travel to St Catharines to meet the IceDogs.

The next action for the Attack is also Friday when they too have a divisional encounter at Guelph against the Storm. (
