An effort to bring natural gas service to Allenford is back in the sights of South Bruce Peninsula.
In 2017, Union Gas--now Enbridge--made a similar request of support from council but the firm didn't get the money from the province.
New money has become available and Enbridge is ready to try again if the town is willing to give its support.
Mayor Janice Jackson says Enbridge has already done a lot of the groundwork and has surveyed residents of Allenford as well, where 74% were in favour of the service.
Councillors approved sending a letter of support to Enbridge and will make a financial contribution in an amount equivalent to the municipal portion of the property tax that would be recovered on the new infrastructure for a period of 10-years.
That amounts to an estimated $1,000 a year for a decade.
If Enbridge gets money from the province for the project, it could take several years to complete.
