The Provincial Curling Champions were determined over the weekend at Elmira.
In the women's division, Owen Sound curler Julie Tippin, skipping for the Woodstock Curling Club, came very close to being the Ontario Scotties Tournament of Hearts Champion, losing to the Rachel Homan rink 6-4 in the Championship Final last Saturday.
Tippin and her rink mates took the long road, going 4 & 3 in the round robin, defeating Hollie Duncan 10-5 in the tiebreaker, the Jestyn Murphy 11-4 in the semifinal before being denied in the final by Homan
The Homan rink from Ottawa will represent Ontario at the National Scotties Tournament of Hearts which begins February 16th in Sydney, Nova Scotia
Meanwhile, the Ontario Recharge with Milk Men's Tankard was also in Elmira and Scott McDonald from Cataraqui ran the table, going undefeated, climaxing his championship with a convincing 8-2 win over John Epping from Leaside.
The McDonald rink will be the Ontario reps at the 2019 Tim Horton's Brier in Brandon, Manitoba which begins March 2nd.
One other curling note, after being snowed out last week, the final round of the playoff round robin in the Brokerlink Insurance Grey Bruce Major Curling League will be conducted tonight at 9 pm at Owen Sound Blue Water.
The Quarterfinals will be staged next Wednesday at the Tara Curling Club followed by Championship Sunday on February 17th at the Chesley Curling Club
