Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
There was a cavalcade of CWOSSA Sports Championships last week including a couple of tournaments staged for high school athletes in our region.
Between Meaford, the 2 high schools at Walkerton and the Waterloo Region there were 7 competitions from which at least 3 major stories emerged.
I'd say the most prominent story came from Georgian Bay Community School at Meaford where the CWOSSA " A " Girls Basketball Championships were staged Friday & Saturday.
The Walkerton Riverhawks won the Junior Girls division.
Along with the Lady Riverhawks, the CWOSSA Football Semifinal was notable for a couple of elements, first the weather in Owen Sound forcing the organizers to shift the game from Victoria Park in Owen Sound to Cambridge.
The Bluewater Champion St Mary's Mustangs knew they were underdogs against St David, but they gave the Celtics a very good run for their money, eventually losing 21-8 meaning St David advanced to the CWOSSA Championship.
And finally on the CWOSSA front, the " AA " Junior Boys Volleyball Championship Tournament Final in Walkerton was an all-Bluewater affair with the St Mary's Mustangs defeating the host Sacred Heart Crusaders 3 games to 1 in the Championship.
There's no OFSAA Championship for the Junior Division, so the Junior Mustangs and Crusaders will have to wait til next year.
