Hi, this is Fred Wallace with " Off the Wire ".
The 2019 Port Elgin Superspiel, or Superspiel XXXVIII, was conducted last weekend utilizing both the Port Elgin Curling Club & the Southampton Curling Club.
In total there were 30 rinks competing, split into two divisions; Open and Senior.
The Open Championship was won by the Mark Kean from Woodstock who defeated Richard Krell of K-W 4-2 in the Final.
The Kean rink included Tyler Twinning from the Owen Sound who played played second for the Championship winning Kean rink.
Meanwhile a familiar local name, Al Hutchinson won the Senior Final defeating Bob Armstrong from Ingersoll in the Championship Game.
Of note, the Armstrong rink was skipped by Curtis Cassidy of the Port Elgin Curling Club so there was a lot of local rooting interest in the Senior Final
Congratulations to the organizers of Superspiel 38 and on their behalf big thank you's to the volunteers and the large number of sponsors and supporters they attract on an annual basis.
