The Municipality of Meaford is planning on holding Canada Day celebrations virtually this year in response to the ongoing Covid pandemic.
A release notes Meaford has received a grant of over $4,600 from the Ministry of Canadian Heritage for the holiday celebrations, featuring music, family activities, how-to videos, and others.
Meaford Special Event and Marketing Coordinator Jennifer Brebner says this year is a special one as they are providing virtual Canada Day celebrations and working with many different local Meaford partners to deliver made-in-Meaford experiences.
In addition, there will be a virtual flag raising at 10 a.m. on July 1, as well as a special award presentation from the Meaford Rotary Club and Chamber of Commerce.
“We are excited to celebrate Canada’s 153rd after cancelling the event last year. This year we will celebrate virtually,” says Janet Sperling, Meaford Manager of Strategic Initiatives.
Residents can also show off their Canada Day spirit by posting a photo on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter saying their favourite things about Meaford using the hashtag #LiveLoveMeaford, for a chance to win a local prize pack.
