Two Meaford residents are facing charges after Grey Bruce OPP seized an estimated $300,000 in drugs.
The huge drug seizure took place at 5 Wednesday morning (March 27) at a property on Concession Road 2 in the Municipality of Meaford.
It is one of the largest drug seizures in the area in recent years.
Police say as a result of an investigation into drug trafficking, a very large team of police which included the Grey Bruce OPP and their Community Street Crimes Unit, along with the Huron-Perth and the Wellington OPP Community Street Crimes Units and the Tactics & Rescue Unit as well as the West Region Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at the property.
OPP say, during the search, officers seized a quantity of cocaine, ketamine, crack cocaine, cash, firearms, and drug paraphernalia.
They say the value of the seized drugs is estimated to be $300,000.
A 59-year-old Meaford man is charged with:
Possession Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
Possession Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Meth
Possession Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Ketamine
Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm (four counts)
Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm (three counts)
Breach of Firearms Regulation – Store Firearm or Ammunition (three counts)
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered with
A 45-year-old Meaford woman is charged with the following:
Possession Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
Possession Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Meth
Possession Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Ketamine
Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm (four counts)
Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm (three counts)
Breach of Firearms Regulation – Store Firearm or Ammunition (three counts)
Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered with
OPP say the accused were held pending a bail hearing.
Detective Sergeant Jamie Blair says in a statement, “This search warrant will undoubtedly have long term positive community impact for our area.”
